Chamber of Engineers congratulates MGPEI on 50th Anniversary

MEDIA RELEASE
DATE: 10 May 2011

The Chamber of Engineers would like to congratulate the Malta Group of Professional Engineering Institutions (MGPEI) on its 50th anniversary, since its establishment in 1961.

The MGPEI celebrated this landmark anniversary on 5th May. Representing the Chamber of Engineers at this well attended event was President Ing. Saviour Baldacchino. The guests of honour included the Presidents of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (I. Mech.E) Dr Nigel Burton and Mr. John R. Wood respectively, as well as Mr. Richard Coackley, Vice President of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). The MGPEI represents these prestigious organisations in Malta. The British High Commissioner, H.E. Ms. Louise Stanton was also in attendance.

“The Chamber of Engineers is proud to be associated with the Malta Group of Professional Institutions,” commented Ing. Baldacchino, after the event. “In fact, this is one of the reasons why the Chamber of Engineers agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Malta Group at the end of 2010.” Ing. Baldacchino further explained that the goals of the Chamber of Engineers and the Malta Group are on a similar plane, thus it was logical to sign an agreement with the aim of further promoting the engineering profession and collaborating on various events, initiatives and projects.

“The Chamber of Engineers is reinforced through such collaborations; by drawing on both organisations’ expertise we aim to increase exchange of information, organise more events for our members, and strengthen our training arm, amongst other projects,” he concluded.
