Being a member of the chamber can help you in many ways. It can also be a means of you contributing to the engineering profession in Malta. There are a considerable number of Government Boards to which the Chamber sends representatives or Board members. You can have your queries on issues regarding matters being discussed by the Boards being brought to the attention of the Board via our representative. At the same time the Chamber is always looking for Engineers willing to contribute. So if you would like to participate in ongoing work that the Chamber has, you can, as a member, bring this to the attention of the Council. The Chamber is also the recognised body by the Government as representing Engineers with respect to the Engineering Board. It is therefore directly consulted whenever changes to the law are being envisaged. As a member you will be asked for your views on any matters crucial to our professional status, that are being discussed. The Chamber has direct links with International fora, including the Eur. Ing from FEANI. With our membership in the EU, mobility has become more relevant and important. The Chamber can help you via these links in any queries regarding job mobility and especially in information regarding the engineering peer organisations in other countries that are also members of FEANI. Finally, the importance of a profession within a society is intimately tied to the way it presents itself and in the way it is heard. Over the past years the work that the Council of the Chamber has done has ensured our representation on various boards, and we also expect to increase this representation. This has ensured that the Chamber is consulted whenever there are matters concerning engineering and technology. However this is an ongoing effort which requires both a strong organisation with a large number of members, as well as more engineers willing to participate in the exciting challenges that the Chamber is facing now. With the focus on energy conservation and sustainability, and introduction of new technologies happening in our society, the role of the engineer has become more important. A strong and vibrant Chamber of Engineers will make sure that our contribution and advice is sought by the authorities whenever it is necessary.
