Be Efficient. Save Energy! – Chamber of Engineers supports the Government and Business Partners to promote Energy Efficiency

The Chamber of Engineers has joined representatives of the private sector and businesses to actively support The Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise in an information campaign promoting energy efficiency for businesses in Malta and Gozo. The campaign, ‘Be Efficient. Save Energy!’ was launched at a press conference on Monday 9th January 2023 and provides guidance on how different economic sectors can reduce energy consumption in their operations.

Together with the Chamber of Engineers, Be Efficient. Save Energy! is supported by another eight associations representing the island’s principal economic sectors. This campaign was planned in response to the proposals of the associations’ proposals to participate in the government’s efforts to promote responsible energy use.

“After launching the educational campaign for efficient energy use in households and introducing energy saving initiatives for the public sector, we were approached by some associations who wanted to help in this initiative. In this regard, the government had already embarked on its plan to ensure energy price stability. Therefore, as a ministry we worked to develop an information campaign on sustainable and efficient energy use,” explained Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli.

During a brief address to the press conference, CoE President Inġ. Malcolm Zammit explained that “the Chamber of Engineers firmly believes in education and wants to raise awareness within the general public about the pivotal role of the engineering profession in any energy efficiency initiative and Engineers should be reference points for advice related to energy management and energy efficiency solutions. Engineers are part of the solution of the current energy crisis yet our profession is also fundamental for the future, since as Engineers, we are trained and formed to solve the crises of tomorrow”

The campaign will be spread over several months and will see business and professional organisations sharing suggestions with their members, on how they can consume less energy, according to their sector, and explain how with small changes and environmental investments can lead to drastic reductions in energy costs and carbon footprint.

This energy saving information campaign is also being supported by The Association of Catering Establishments; Gozo Business Chamber; Gozo Tourism Association; Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise, and Industry; Malta Chamber of SMEs; Malta Developers Association; Malta Employers’ Association and Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association.
