On Tuesday, 14 July, the Chamber of Engineers represented by President Dr Inġ. Bonnie Attard and Education  & Training Secretary Dr Inġ. Stefania Cristina, held a technical meeting with Inspectra Ltd., represented by Laboratory Manager, Jacob Spiteri and Director, Martina Camilleri, to discuss key engineering topics related to calibration, testing, and quality assurance within Malta’s industrial and laboratory sectors.

Inspectra is a leading provider of quality control, calibration and cleanroom validation services for Malta’s industrial and pharmaceutical sectors. The company supports organisations through technical calibration, inspection services and certified cleanroom testing, ensuring compliance and high‑standard operational performance.

The discussion focused on the differences between calibration and testing, the importance of understanding calibration principles, and the impact of calibration quality on engineering practice. The need for greater awareness across the profession regarding why calibration matters, particularly in ensuring accuracy, reliability, and compliance in engineering work was also discussed.

Inspectra outlined current sector challenges, including the availability of specialised calibration services, workforce skills, and the evolving expectations of clients and regulators. The meeting also explored the distinction between in‑house accreditation and external accreditation, and the importance of training in this sector.

Following the meeting, Inspectra provided the Chamber representatives with a guided tour of its facilities, showcasing the laboratory’s capabilities, equipment, and the range of services offered to industry.
