Chamber of Engineers visits ST Microelectronics Malta

The Chamber of Engineers’ active outreach toward the industry progressed with a visit to STMicroelectronics (Malta) Ltd, hosted by Dr. Laurent Filipozzi – Site General Manager, Inġ. Jonathan Ferrito – Director, Site General Administration and Mr. Howard Tang – Director, Industrial Engineering 4.0. A delegation from the Chamber composed of Inġ. Malcolm Zammit – President, Inġ. Bonnie Attard – Secretary-General, and Inġ. Robert Busuttil – Vice President, attended the session held on the 13th of May.

STMicroelectronics Malta offered the Chamber its unique perspective of the forthcoming future and challenges faced by the company while highlighting the available opportunities to young engineers who are ambitious for a rewarding career. The site visit was then concluded with an interesting facility tour, where STMicroelectronics management and engineers presented ongoing projects in the realm of manufacturing digitalization, showing how Industry 4.0 is transforming the semiconductor manufacturing sector.

The President of the Chamber, Inġ. Malcolm Zammit concluded by emphasising the importance of strengthening the relationship between the manufacturing sector and the engineering profession, whilst underlying the sector’s crucial role in generating opportunities for engineers and other career opportunities within STEM.

The Chamber looks forward to consolidating bridges with key representatives of the manufacturing industry in Malta, as well as with engineers working in this sector, whilst recognising the contribution that the sector provides to the national economy.
