Chamber of Engineers visits MDIA

On 22nd March 202, the Chamber of Engineers visited the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) as part of its outreach towards industry and regulators. The CoE delegation, composed of Inġ. Malcolm Zammit – President, and Dr Inġ. Bonnie Attard – Secretary General, held a meeting with Mr Kenneth Brincat – MDIA CEO, Mr Gavril Flores – MDIA Chief Strategy, Policy & Governance Officer, Dr Jean-Marie Mifsud – MDIA Chief Innovative Technology Officer, and Mr Bernard Montebello – Head of Malta’s European Digital Innovation Hub (DiHubMT).
MDIA explained their function, structure and operations and delved into its vision for the regulation of the emerging technologies sector in Malta. MDIA representatives also gave an extensive tour of their premises and explained their commitment to direct and facilitate the secure and optimal uptake of digital innovation. The Authority delved into synergies with the engineering profession with regards to regulatory advancements in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Data, Distributed Ledger Technologies and Cybersecurity. An overview of the European Digital Innovation Hub led by the MDIA was provided. The Hub provides technology access services to individuals, start-ups and scale-ups. Its services also include entrepreneurship and skills development supported by a community of persons committed to strengthen the innovation ecosystem.
The Chamber of Engineers highlighted its vision to be closer to forward-looking entities with a strong link towards the development of technology and promotion of innovation and digitalisation. These collaborations are intent on widening opportunities for members of the engineering profession.
