Chamber of Engineers visits Mater Dei Hospital

On 21st August , the Chamber of Engineers’ outreach efforts towards the industry continued with a visit to Mater Dei Hospital (MDH) where Inġ. Malcolm Zammit – President, Inġ. David Scicluna Giusti – Vice President and Dr Inġ. Bonnie Attard – Secretary General met with Inġ. Keith Attard – MDH Chief Executive Officer, Inġ. Noel Psaila – MDH Director of Engineering  Operations and  Inġ. Chris Attard Montalto – MDH Director of Biomedical Engineering.

MDH representatives explained the hospital functions and operations which are widely dependent on the expertise of engineers and science & technology professionals.  MDH also delved into its current and future projects to improve capacity of the hospital and medical services to patients.  MDH representatives also gave an overview of the hospital equipment which has been recently installed and other equipment which is being commission throughout this year, focusing on the quality assurance requirements for such medical equipment.

The Chamber of Engineers’ representatives presented the Chamber’s vision to showcase the positive impact that engineers are having in industry including the key roles engineers have in critical sectors such as healthcare. A discussion followed on the need for a stronger profession and for prospective engineers to enagage into the profession. Areas for future collaboration were discussed which included career exposure for engineering careers in the hospital and on transmitting the impact that engineers can have on healthcare.
