On the 28th of January, the Chamber of Engineers (CoE) conducted out a stakeholder visit with the Bajada Lyons Group a leading Maltese enterprise recognised for its pioneering work in renewable energy and its diversified portfolio spanning engineering services, healthcare, hospitality, and emerging technologies. Chairperson Mark Bajada, Inġ. Brian Tabone and CEO (Energy & Engineering) Daniel Bajada welcomed CoE President Dr Inġ. Bonnie Attard and provided an overview of the Group’s activities driving sustainable growth and technological advancement in Malta.
Discussions focused on several strategic themes central to the future of the engineering profession. Both parties explored opportunities for growth within engineering businesses and the creation of high‑value roles for professionals across Malta’s expanding technical sectors. The Group shared insights into its ongoing investment in AI‑driven solutions and expressed interest in collaborating on training initiatives to equip engineers with advanced digital and automation skills. The Chamber highlighted the importance of outreach programmes aimed at increasing student uptake of engineering careers, ensuring a strong future talent pipeline.
The meeting also touched upon national challenges, including skills shortages, the difficulty of sourcing specialised professionals for high‑end technical roles, and the broader issue of retaining trained talent within Malta. Strategies discussed included stronger industry‑education alignment, enhanced professional development pathways, and collaborative efforts to promote engineering as a vital pillar of Malta’s economic resilience and innovation capacity.
