Engineering the Next Decade | Advancing Smart Industry and Sustainable InfrastructureTuesday, 26 May 2026 | Westin Dragonara Resort, St Julian’s

The Chamber of Engineers successfully hosted its 33rd Annual Engineering Conference on 26 May 2026 at the Westin Dragonara Resort, St Julian’s. Held under the theme “Engineering the Next Decade | Advancing Smart Industry and Sustainable Infrastructure,” the conference brought together engineers, industry leaders, academics, policymakers, researchers, and innovators to explore the technologies, strategies, and collaborations that will shape the future of industry and infrastructure.

The event provided an important platform for discussing how engineering can drive innovation while addressing the growing need for sustainability, resilience, and digital transformation. As industries continue to evolve and infrastructure systems become increasingly interconnected, the conference highlighted the crucial role engineers play in developing solutions that are efficient, intelligent, and future-ready.

Opening the conference, Chamber President Dr Inġ. Bonnie Attard welcomed attendees and emphasised the importance of engineering in supporting economic growth, technological advancement, and national development. She noted that engineers are at the forefront of addressing some of society’s most pressing challenges, from climate change and energy efficiency to digitalisation and infrastructure resilience.

The conference was also addressed by Mr Bjorn Callus, Permanent Secretary within the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, and Hon. Dr Bernard Grech, Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Capital Projects, both of whom underscored the importance of innovation, investment, and collaboration in building sustainable infrastructure and competitive industries for the future.

The programme featured 27 distinguished speakers from leading organisations across the public and private sectors, academia, and industry. Through nine presentations and three panel discussions, delegates explored a wide range of topics including digital transformation, operational intelligence, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data engineering, intelligent building performance, energy optimisation, resilient infrastructure, industrial heritage, and research and innovation funding opportunities.
