European Standardisation: Essential Insights For Engineers

The Chamber of Engineers and Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority have the please to invite the engineering community and interested professionals to participate in a session focused on European Standardisation.
Engineers are particularly invited to attend for this afternoon seminar meant to shed light on the holistic, correct and maximised use of European standards. Light refreshments will be offered during networking session.

This session is expected to address the following topics:
  • What are standards?  Definition, purpose, and importance of standards in engineering.
  • How are standards developed?  Overview of the standardization process, including the role of European standardization bodies.
  • Types of standards: Different categories of standards (e.g., product, process, management system).
  • Standards and regulations: Relationship between standards and regulations, including harmonized standards and their role in regulatory compliance.
  • Making reference to standards: How to properly cite and reference standards in engineering documents.
  • Presumption of conformity: The concept of presumption of conformity and its benefits for manufacturers and consumers.
