Joseph Farrugia is a warranted mechanical engineer who brings over 37 years of experience in pharmaceutical engineering, specialising in capital project management, site master planning, and the development of resilient maintenance systems. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Malta and has served in senior engineering and leadership roles at Pharmamed, Actavis, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, STMicroelectronics and Siegfried Malta.
Joseph has successfully managed major capital projects exceeding €120 million, leading multidisciplinary teams and implementing engineering solutions that strengthened operational capability and regulatory compliance. His work includes complex facility redevelopments, the establishment of effective engineering teams, and the delivery of business-critical projects within demanding timelines and regulatory frameworks. His experience extends internationally, having contributed to and overseen project portfolios in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Italy. He has formed part of the Actavis Corporate Engineering Team and Teva’s Engineering Global Project Management Team, supporting strategic initiatives across Europe.
In November 2025, Joseph was honoured with the Maurice Debono Lifetime Achievement Award by the Chamber of Engineers, recognising his long-standing contribution to the engineering profession in Malta. Renowned for his commitment to engineering, he continues to support the profession through
consultancy in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, assisting both local and international organisations.
