Stefania Cristina is a warranted engineer who graduated from the University of Malta with a B.Eng.(Hons) degree in Electrical Engineering in 2008, followed by an M.Sc. by Research in 2010 and a Ph.D. in Engineering in 2016.

She is currently a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Systems and Control Engineering at the University of Malta. Stefania’s research interests lie within the domains of computer vision and image processing, where she actively contributes through research that focuses on eye-gaze tracking for human-computer interaction, video-based human motion analysis, thermal image analysis, and document binarisation. She also presently holds the role of Chair of the PR committee of the Faculty of Engineering, where, together with her colleagues, strives for STEM popularisation.

Beyond her academic and research endeavours, Stefania has also served as Chair of the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) Vision and Imaging Technical Network, and as Chair of the Malta Group of Professional Engineering Institutions (MGPEI).

Stefania was elected for the first time to the CoE executive council in 2025 and holds the position of Education and Training Secretary.
