Jean-Marie Darmanin graduated from the University of Malta in 2011 with a B.Eng. (Hons.) Degree followed by a Master by Research in ICT with the Department of Micro and Nano Electronics in the same University in which he graduated in 2013.

The focus of both Undergraduate and Master Programmes was on Micro Electro Mechanical System Accelerometer design, which led him to work with two leading companies of the consumer MEMS Market in three different countries Malta, Italy and Germany. In these locations he had the opportunity to delve into Semiconductor R&D, MEMS Sensor Product Development and High-Volume MEMS Production Oversight.

Currently Jean-Marie is a Business Continuity Planner at the Malta International Airport where his core focus is applying his engineering know-how with respect to Business Continuity Planning.

As part of his past relevant experiences, Jean-Marie served as Media Officer and Industrial Relations Officer of the IEEE Malta Student Branch between 2011 and 2013 and was then moved to the IEEE Section Malta as Membership Development Officer till 2015. Jean-Marie is part of the Editorial Board of the Chamber’s flagship magazine Engineering Today since 2023 and is involved in events that encourage student uptake into the engineering field.

Jean-Marie was elected for the Chambers’ Executive Council and holds the position of Secretary General for the 2025/2026 term.
