Chamber of Engineers visits Malta Freeport Terminals

The Chamber of Engineers’ President, Inġ. Malcolm Zammit, and Vice-President Inġ. David Scicluna Giusti paid a visit to Malta Freeport Terminals as part of the Chamber’s outreach initiative towards the industry.

During the visit, Malta Freeport Terminals’ Engineering Management explained the vision of the company based on innovation and competitiveness. They also outlined the significant investment strategy on digitalisation, infrastructural development, productivity, workforce training and upskilling, as well as the continuous professional development of staff.

Indeed, Malta Freeport is reaping the rewards of the ambitious €320 million investment programme initiated by the company after privatisation of the facility in 2004.

A strategically-located transhipment hub with over 30 years’ experience in the shipping industry, Malta Freeport Terminals is well poised to efficiently handle the world’s largest vessels with a capacity of more than 23,000 TEUs simultaneously at both container terminals. The company has established itself among global carriers as a leading, dependable, and strategic transhipment port.

The Chamber of Engineers shared ongoing efforts in favour of the engineering profession and in furthering the interests of the engineering community in Malta.

The Chamber also delved into its vision of collaborating with key industry players that promote industrial excellence and depend on the valuable input of engineering professionals.

The Chamber of Engineers and Malta Freeport Terminals agreed there are distinct areas within engineering services, technical training, and professional development where adopting emerging technologies and future training initiatives for engineers and technicians can be enhanced through collaboration, thereby supporting the future of Malta Freeport Terminals.

The Freeport delegation was made up of IEng (Fellow) James Peter Alsop, Chief Engineering Officer, Inġ. Ivan Curmi, Manager Engineering – Mechanical, Inġ. Mario Raggio, Manager Engineering – Electrical, Inġ. Brian Gafa, Engineering Service Manager, Inġ. Kenneth Spiteri, Engineering Service Manager, as well as Mr Mark Cardona and Inġ. Matteo Aquilina, Mechanical Engineers.
