On the 24th November 2025, the Chamber of Engineers (CoE) signed a Charter for the establishment of the National STEAM Engagement Taskforce along with stakeholders within the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) sector. Through this Charter, the CoE will collaborate with multiple entities across education, research, industry, and arts in order to pool expertise, provide evidence-based advice, and catalyse projects that strengthen Malta’s STEAM ecosystem and future-proof its workforce.
The CoE views the establishment of this Task Force as a strategic milestone in national policy building on the efforts undertaken by the previous STEM Working Group. By integrating the arts into traditional STEM disciplines, Malta is embracing a holistic approach that nurtures not only technical expertise but also creativity, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. This vision reflects the Chamber’s long-standing commitment to promoting engineering careers while ensuring that Malta remains competitive and innovative on the international stage.
The signing took place between CoE President Dr Inġ. Bonnie Attard, Esplora Senior Director Ms Mary Ann Cauchi together with Parliamentary Secretary Hon. Keith Azzopardi Tanti and representatives from the University of Malta (UM), Malta College of Art, Science and Technology (MCAST), JobsPlus, the Malta Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Scientists, MATSEC, the Arts Council Malta, Tech.mt and the National Skills Council. Following the signing, the first meeting of the Task Force took place where Dr Inġ. Bonnie Attard and Dr Inġ. Stefania Cristina, education secretary, attended on behalf of the CoE.

As the major leading professional body representing engineers in Malta, the CoE is committed to play a proactive role in advancing Malta’s STEAM agenda by advising policymakers with clear, data-driven recommendations that accelerate meaningful change. In collaboration with national stakeholders, the Chamber will support flagship initiatives, through focus groups, data sharing, peer review, and co-creation. By pooling insights and resources, the Chamber will help address pressing national challenges such as the skills gaps, and labour-market foresight, ensuring that Malta’s workforce remains resilient and future-ready. At the same time, the Chamber will amplify public engagement in STEAM by coordinating outreach, events, and communication that inspire students, professionals, and families to embrace innovation and creativity as drivers of Malta’s sustainable growth.
This initiative aligns with the Chamber’s mission to strengthen Malta’s engineering community, foster unity among professionals, and promote engineering as a vital career path. By embracing STEAM, Malta is investing in education and research and laying the groundwork for a resilient, innovative, and future-ready society. The CoE stands ready to contribute expertise, leadership, and advocacy to ensure that this vision becomes a reality.
