On the 26th of January, the Chamber of Engineers (CoE) carried out a visit to Gozo to explore potential collaboration with key stakeholders. The visit began with a meeting at The Gozo Business Chamber (GBC), where President Michael Galea, Chief Executive Officer Daniel Borg, and Manager Jesmond Buttigieg welcomed CoE President Dr Inġ. Bonnie Attard, Secretary General Jean-Marie Darmanin, Treasurer Inġ. Maurizio Cappello, and Education Secretary Dr Inġ. Stefania Cristina.
The GBC outlined its role in safeguarding and promoting the interests of its members by addressing Gozo’s regional challenges, fostering business opportunities, strengthening cooperation and representation, and providing education and training. The discussion highlighted several areas of mutual interest, as well as challenges faced by Gozitan entities; particularly those related to connectivity, funding, and talent retention. Both organisations identified concrete avenues for collaboration and expressed commitment to building a closer working relationship.

The CoE delegation then visited Hutchinson, where Plant Manager Jason Borg, supported by Human Resources Generalist Isabel Ivanovic, Quality and NPI Manager Simon Zammit and other members of the team, provided an overview of the company’s operations. Based in Xewkija, Hutchinson manufactures high‑precision sealing solutions; including bonded seals, slim‑line seals, and other bi‑material components for global automotive, aerospace, and industrial clients. Its operations also support sectors such as energy, defence, and aviation, forming part of Hutchinson’s worldwide mobility and multi‑material solutions network. Representatives from the CoE and GBC were given a tour of the manufacturing process, from the initial stages of production through to the final product.
The visit reinforced the Chamber of Engineers’ commitment to supporting Gozo’s industrial and economic development through active collaboration, building on this momentum to deliver long‑term value for engineers, businesses and the wider Gozitan community.
